Drakengard-Style

Trying out some paint ideas.

I've been on a huge Drakengard kick lately.  It's a very weird, very cool game with DRAGONS with crazy horns and tails.  I like it a lot. :)

I'm listening to the NieR (Drakengard's successor) soundtrack right now and trying not to cry because it is beautiful.  Seriously, go listen to it.

Sketch Page 874

Elephant study.  I noticed on my last painting- the one of Luna- it looks like she is SUPER saturated on other computers.  Maybe I need to recalibrate my laptop screen.  Anyway, I tried to compensate for it in this study.  We'll see!

Sketch Page 866 - Gryphon Repaint

 New

Old

I couldn't think of what to paint and I'm really tired of studies so I grabbed an old painting from two years ago in April to repaint.  The old one was 'stylized' to the point that its anatomy was completely broken so for the new one I heavily referenced photos online.  It definitely helped and I also found some points that I need to reference/learn about more such as wings, paws, bird heads...  ok everything, really.

More Dream Catcher staves

Further progress on the Dream Catcher staves.  If anyone is wondering why its taking so long for me to finish these things, it's because I keep scrapping the color studies and starting over.  I think these guys are the closest I'm going to get to the style I want for them.

Ewlligator

I didn't like how this was turning out, so it was abandoned.  OH WELL.  I call it "Ewlligator"... even though it is a crocodile.

Dream catcher staff color 2

Okay I think I'm at a point where I can begin some finalized artwork.  I may make some alterations to color/design along the way.  I was also thinking of dropping the secondary dream catcher staff entirely (bottom row design). The design looked okay in the rough sketch but I think it lost some of it's charm, going to color.  Not sure yet, though.

Please let me know if there is a particular color scheme you enjoy for either design or if you think that there is something I can do to make it better
thanks!

Klymene, the Forest Spirit - quick paint

I noticed something while at work - I am molasses slow when it comes to churning out concepts.  Ridiculously slow.  STUPID SLOW, EVEN.

So I'm going to try to focus on conveying ideas fast.  The focus isn't on a finished work (although I may go back and rework some of these pieces) the goal is to make the idea readable, quickly.  Today's quick paint was on a 30 minute timer.  As much as I wanted to keep painting on it, I forced myself to quit.  I really like how this turned out.  I'd like to visit it later but for now I will leave it alone.

Fire Wizard color tests

Started doing some color tests/ lighting tests for the fire wizard.  The fire wizard was made and colored before but that was a more cartoon-y style - not quite following what I originally wanted him to be.  WIP

sketch page 583- Gwiffun

Hey, dude.  Bro.  Check this out.  I actually did what I said I would do!  :U  I started coloring the gryphon, as promised several posts ago.

This is a WIP

I was going to make his wings black but then I realized he looked too much like the ebon gryphons from World of Warcraft so I changed them up a bit.  I actually like them more now.

Sketch Pages 573-574

Aww I've posted so very little images for this month.  Work has been taking up a good chunk of my time.  I've noticed that I have a hard time working on personal stuff while having a job where I draw all day.  Not that I mind; my job is awesome. <3

For some reason I really want to play with color.  I'd like to take these two sketches and give em a go in Photoshop.  Maybe play around with a blue-black/brown/yellow color scheme for the gryphon.
