Sketch Page 138

Just one page today. I know... general disappointment for all!
Here are random doodles finished during class. I like scribbling light lines and then creating images out of them. Oh, and do not pay attention to the light blue fail on the right.

Caravaggio redone

Metal Fingers from conceptart.org gave me a lovely critique on my Caravaggio study.
He suggested that I should slow down and analyze the shapes, block it in. Basics! It really helped, I think.

Photoshop Sketch 10?

I dunno what PS sketch number this is anymore! Maybe I should stop trying to number them...
Here is just a random env from reference. I am trying to focus on getting the big important color shapes rather than details right now so I set a strict time limit for myself.

life studies
Dragon studies from How to Train Your Dragon book.

Crap page done hanging out at Jacob's apartment.

Sketch Page 124 and 125

I did these pages yesterday but it was eat-a-dead-bird day and I couldn't post them.
Studies of my hand. I'm trying to be more confident with my lines so I tried to do these with
minimal contour lines and shading.

For this page I did two Terryl Whitlach studies (the very top body and the very bottom paws)
and then I drew my own thingies using what I learned.
I like the lizard head on the mid left side.

Bird Wizard and Coinface

I'm sorry for spamming you guys with crap. I just can't stop drawing! I think I have a problem...

Anyway, one of my projects requires me to draw a lot of Labyrinth themed critters. Chyeah life is good.

Sketch Pages 117-119

30 sec poses
I feel like I'm cheating by counting gesture pages toward my sketchbook page count but I really REALLY need to figure out how to draw humans and I figure that putting myself through quick-pose bootcamp will help. The more people I draw, the better I will get.
Although right now all I feel while doing these fast sketches is confused and slightly upset so we'll see.
Prepare for A LOT of these pages. homg

Dog paints!

Yay, more ink! I found a method for handling ink wash and it just might work. Anyway, these were done with a combo of ink wash, nibbed pen, and brush pen.

Photoshop'd horsies from reference.
by golly I need to practice more. these have weak contrast

Photoshop Sketch 6 or 7?

I realized that I haven't done a photoshop sketch in awhile. Here is a 30 thing from my head.
My goal was to practice light and dark relationships and making the mouth look wet

Sketch Pages 109-111

So I decided to whip out my nib pens today and watch me some Lard of da Rangs.
I love using ink so much. I need to work on my ink wash skills.
I like the nib that I used for this page. The ink goes on real smooth and doesn't need to be replenished that often.
Figures that I finish a page and accidentally drop a big blog of ink on my favorite orc face.
Here's a different nib. The nib I used for this one is very thin and very tempermental.
If I can figure out how to use it correctly, it could be awesome.
Sam has bedroom eyes. Nuff said.

I drew a quick orc with brush pens.
I call him Jay Leno.

Sketch Pages 103 and 104- fun with inks and guarlaras

There are so many people who I admire on Conceptart.org
Talk about being ridiculously talented.
There is a sub-forum on CA that lets you post your sketchbook pages.
A lot of the sketchbooks posted there have a serious sense of composition and style and have inspired me to at least try different ways of handling figure studies.
cool times, bro.
more thiiiiings.
A friend pointed out that the wolf's head is coming from that girl's crotch.
um.
.
.
oops

And I copied a sketch of Terryl Whitlach's critter and tried adding new colors to it in colored pencil.
color is so difficult :(

Sketch Pages 101 and 102

Onward and upward!
Here is assignment number two for Seedling's Concept Art thingy.
The object is to draw a self-portrait of yourself from observation and then add stuff to your face, like a fist... I think I just threatened myself.

So I changed myself into an alien and a... um... tattooed space warrior?
